NEW: Individual Classes can now be arranged in your home, at a time to suit you. Classes last 2 hours and cost £100. Please e-mail us to schedule yours.
Our antenatal classes are designed for couples (the mother-to-be plus her partner, friend, midwife, doula or family member). They are best suited to women in the last three months of pregnancy.
The aim of the class is to prepare you to make the transition to parenthood in as smooth and stress-free a way as possible. A variety of learning materials are used, including pictures, games, videos and birth stories. Classes cover:
- What to expect in the last few weeks of pregnancy
- Preparing for birth – choosing place of birth and carers
- Stages of labour and what happens in each one
- Practical tips for coping with labour and birth
- The different types of birth
- What to expect in the first days and weeks after the birth
- Options for feeding your baby
- Caring for your newborn
Classes are run by Melissa Coyne, RM. Having worked as both an independent and an NHS midwife, Melissa has supported families through births at home, in birth centres and in most of the London and south Herts hospitals. She has a wide-ranging perspective on the various NHS and private maternity choices available.
When: Saturdays, 10:30am – 4:00pm.
Where: High Barnet, EN5.
Cost: £100 per couple, payable in advance. Places are limited, and advance booking is required. Please e-mail us to request a registration form. When we receive your form and payment we’ll email you to confirm your place in the class.
